Research in Hawaii; The Best of Times? The Worst of Times? Boston, Seattle, New York, Houston, San Diego, San Francisco, Hawaii? These cities are formidable research clusters. Will Hawaii become a research cluster like these other cities? These cities have academia, industry and connectivity which helped research to prosper. Please join us at the August AITP panel where we explore the topic of Research in Hawaii with representatives from Academia and Industry.

Panelist:
Dr. David Curb, University of Hawaii Medical School. Dr. Curb has been involved in medical research in Hawaii for many years including exciting projects like the Honolulu Heart program and other research on longevity.
 
Keith T. Matsumoto, Technical Director for the Hawaii Technology Development Venture.  He is also a technical and administrative consultant to the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center, Hawaii Regional Training Initiative, and Inovi Group, LLC.  He currently sits on the board of the Hawaii Institute for Molecular Sciences, Hawaii Consortium for Medicine & Health, Hawaii Dual Use Network, and Hawaii Amateur Sports Association.

Dr. Ken Cheung, Oceanit's Science & Technology Manager and is also a licensed civil engineer.  Dr. Ken Cheung is responsible for developing and incubating dual-use technologies, with the goal of commercializing government-funded research and development in the areas of electro-optics, radio frequency (RF) technologies for C4ISR, and life sciences.  Dr. Cheung has broad-based experience with technology development, experimental testing methods, program management and business development.  Recent accomplishments include managing the Passive Physiological Monitor (P2M) program, funded by DoD, to develop non-invasive vital-signs monitoring technology for medical evacuation applications and co-founding Hoana Medical, Inc., a P2M-spawned private-equity-funded spin-out company specializing in medical devices for hospital use.
