Telework & Mobile Computing Luncheon


Please mark your calendars to attend our October lunch meeting that will focus on the business value, challenges, and lessons learned from enterprise telework/mobile computing initiatives, including how to start a telework initiative and lesson learned from an enterprise iPad rollout.

A great panel of speakers is being assembled who will share with us their organization's telework and mobile computing initiatives including:


•  image  Fred Fortin, Hawaii Medical Services Association (HMSA)

Alfred J. Fortin, Ph.D., is a senior vice president for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Hawaii - Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA).  He has worked in the healthcare field for nearly 40 years.  Mr. Fortin oversees strategic policy development and business innovation. In his career at HMSA, Mr. Fortin he has held senior executive positions overseeing legal affairs, privacy and security, compliance, business continuity, internal audit, community/government relations, and media communications. Mr. Fortin has also traveled extensively in China as a member of the national Blue Cross Blue Shield Association’s delegation on exploring health care challenges in that country.

In addition to his Blue Cross Blue Shield experience, Mr. Fortin has an extensive background in health and human services, ranging from mental health crisis intervention and child abuse prevention to research on AIDS in Africa.  He has been the recipient of a national fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies studying AIDS in Kenya.  He was an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Hawaii's John A. Burns School of Medicine and an adjunct professor at the School of Public Health at the University of Hawaii.
 
Mr. Fortin earned his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Massachusetts, a master's degree in clinical social work from the University of Connecticut and a doctorate in health politics from the University of Hawaii.


•  image  EB Lawson, U.S. Coast Guard 

EB Lawson is a retired U.S. Marine. He worked at Schofield Federal Credit Union at Schofield Barracks from 1994 to 1997 and started his Federal Government Career in 1997 at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. In 2000 Mr. Lawson transferred to Pearl Harbor where he accepted a position with the Army at Fort Shafter in October 2003. He finally transferred to the Coast Guard in January 2004 where he continues to work.
 
Mr. Lawson is the primary Webmaster for the Coast Guard in Hawaii. He also Webmasters for the Coast Guard Ball Website, D14 Golf Association , Armed Forces Communication Electronics Association (AFCEA) for which he volunteers. He also is the Local System Manager for the Staff at District 14 where he is the Video Teleconferencing Facilitator, Audio/Visual Support, and is also a Classified Local Area Network Administrator. Mr. Lawson Chairs the Civilian Advisory Board, Web Advisory Board and serves on the Coast Guard Ball Committee.
 
Mr. Lawson  recently started the Telework Work Group which will evolve to a Committee that will govern telework in his organization.  Among his other accomplishments he has also completed the Coast Guard’s Senior Leaders


•  image  Jeff Haring, Akamai Technologies

Jeff Haring is a Principal Product Support Engineer with Akamai Technologies, which provides cloud-based services for optimizing Web and mobile content and applications, online HD video, and secure e-commerce. Akamai Technologies is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with additional large offices in San Mateo, California and Bangalore, India.

Mr. Haring worked briefly for Fidelity Investments and Lochridge Consulting in Boston, before finding his way back to technology working for Pegasystems as an implementation consultant, initially in Cambridge and then in San Francisco.   After leaving Pegasystems, he worked as an independent consultant for HMSA, advising on an implementation using that software.

Mr. Haring has been with Akamai Technologies since 2004, working in their Customer Care group.  Initially based out of their San Mateo office, he has worked for Akamai remotely from Honolulu since 2005.  He is now the product line lead for Akamai’s technical support of digital media products.
